Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes
I highly recommend this book about the life and language of the Piraha people of the Amazon. It is written by a former Christian missionary and contemporary linguist who lived among them for 30 years in order to learn their language and to force his worldview and religion on them….he is now an atheist. It is an enlightening book that challenges the currently accepted view of universal grammar as theorized by Noam Chomsky.
